Abstract

In the second quarter of 2011, the greater Chinese netbook PC shipment volume remained slack in the markets besides the emerging markets, owing to the growing popularity of Apple iPad 2 and other tablet devices as well as the branded notebook PC vendors' inventory clearance and the continuous price drops of value-line notebook PCs. In the emerging markets featuring relatively low income and consumption power, however, netbook PCs remained price-competitive compared with value-line notebook PCs. At the same time, as tablet devices highly rely on wireless networks but wireless network infrastructure is still not widespread in these regions, there was still considerable demand for netbook PCs in the emerging markets. It is estimated that the greater Chinese netbook PC shipment volume reached approximately 5.27 million units in the second quarter of 2011, dropping 1% sequentially and 18.7% year-on-year.
